They started with a small outlet at Tiong Bahru, and then that was nurtured by their firmly held belief in celebrating neighborhoods, that blossomed into a space born out of love called Tiong Bahru Bakery on 43 Jalan Merah Saga in Chip Bee Gardens, surrounding the artsy bohemian enclave, Holland Village.

“Holland Village is where I started my first business for Spa Esprit and Strip. This shop is a result of my reflections on times gone past, and what I truly miss about my growing up years in Singapore,”

Cynthia Chia, Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Spa Esprit Group

Sticking closely to homegrown Tiong Bahru Bakery’s believes, they bake fresh breads, viennoiserie and pastries to everyday. Their Holland outlet is inspired by a 1930’s sweet shop, with a glass cabinet to showcase that it is fully stocked with all the sweet and savory bakes of the day. Feast your eyes on the delicious delights in it’s deep dipped display drawers that were originally keepers of all sorts of candies and chocolates. This specially commissioned antique looking wooden cabinet doubles up as an eye catching centerpiece which brings back the vintage feels of Singapore in its early years. The back of the bakery stand is complete with wooden cooling racks for up to eleven handmade breads such as the quintessential baguette.

One of my favorites is the Takeaway Express Lane at the exterior of the shop. Beat the indoor crowd by choosing from the bestsellers’ list of breads and viennoiserie here , and even favorite beverage to wash them all down such as the “Teh Tarik”.

What is Teh Tarik?

Teh tarik literally means pulled tea. The name came from the pouring process of pulling the drink during preparation. It is made from black tea and either condensed milk or evaporated milk.

To show the love for their Chip Bee Garden supporters, they newly release the Merah Saga tart. The crimson berry  ensemble is made up of fresh currants and raspberries piped in with raspberry confit dots, then bestowed with a tinge of gold leaf while kept together by old fashioned vanilla cream in a crumbly sable breton crust. Priced at $9.50 for one, this exclusive commemorative pastry is only available here for a limited time only from now till end of July. Their signature butter croissants which are baked fresh every two hours priced at $3.20 each.

Below are some of the delights you can expect to savoir while your there.
