When it comes to local cuisines and what food represents Singapore, there are quiet a few that comes to ones mind. Among my most favorite foods are Rendang and Hainanese Chicken Rice. As of today, burger king is bringing you both to celebrate our nations’s birthday. To those readers who was wondering what rendang and hainanese chicken rice is let me share alittle with you

What is Rendang?

Rendang is a popular dish made with meat stewed in coconut milk and the rempah or known as the spice mix. Rendang is commonly found in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, each region have its own distinct versions and taste. The various versions of the rendang uses different ingredients for the rempah. But despite the many styles, one thing is well known. The gravy is thick and spicy. The meat is soft and tender NOT CRISPY :). Commonly made with either beef, chicken or mutton.

What is hainanese chicken rice?

The hainanese chicken rice or commonly known as chicken rice originated from Hainan, an island off the southern coast of China. The dish consists of steamed white chicken cut into bite-size pieces and served on fragrant rice with some light soy sauce, soup and paired with a special garlic-chilli, sometimes with dark soy sauce as well. The rice is rich in flavour and it comes from the grains that have been pre-fried in chicken fat and then cooked in chicken broth. That is what makes the hainanese chicken rice rice so special.
