In the recent few years, the genre ISEKAI has been on a rise. Now a days this genre mostly common among Anime and Manga. Those born in the 90s might know some of this titles, Spirited Away, Magic Knight Rayearth, Digimon and Fushigi Yûgi.
Yes, there are english renown titles that are classified as Isekai as well. English titles classified under Isekai includes Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz , Peter Pan and The Chronicles of Narnia.
SO, What is ISEKAI?
Isekai is a Sub-gene to the Fantasy genre. Isekai works around a normal person from Earth being transported to, or reborn, or trapped in a parallel universe, or in a game universe, usually it’s a fantasy world. Often, it already exists in the protagonist’s world as a fictional universe, but it may also be unknown to them.
The protagonist normally gets transported to another world either by traveling into it, being summoned into it, or taking possession of another being. More common in earlier works. Whereas the latter, where the protagonist dies in their original world and is then reborn in another world, became more common in newer works.
